One of my favourite things to do is wander around new markets I have stumbled across. Whether it be a fashion market, a jewellery market, a food market or a mix of all of these, the pleasure is in the discovery. Strolling up and down the makeshift alleyways and popping into the stalls to discover newfound items or old favourites. That piece of jewellery that just jumps out at you or the summer dress that you don’t really need, but must have! The great thing about markets is that you can find that gift that you aren’t able to find elsewhere.
Markets and Stallholders
Most weekends you can find many markets across the suburbs of most capital cities, many smaller cities, and country towns. Colourful and vibrant markets offer a tempting range of goods ready for you to choose that perfect gift. The market day for the stallholder starts before dawn with the car packed with all their goods. They drive to the market where they set up on a 3m x 3m piece of dirt or grass. Unload, park the car and then set up the stall to make it enticing for the impending customer. The stallholders vary in age, some have a full-time job and sell as they have a passion for their goods and/or for interacting with people. Other people make this marketplace their job.
I find talking to the different stallholders and customers fascinating. They come from all walks of life and every one of them have an interesting story to tell.
A market, or marketplace, is a location where people regularly gather for the purchase and sale of provisions, livestock, and other goods. In different parts of the world, a market place may be described as a souk, bazaar, a fixed mercado, or itinerant tianguis, or palengke.

We are also at Maitland Showground markets on Sunday 20th October and Sunday 17th November. On Sunday 10th November we will be at the FANS French Market. Come and feel our fabrics.
